About this text

Om Jai Shiv Omkara is a Hindi aarti to Shiva; its last line names Shivanand Swami. It praises Shiva as Omkara and sees Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiv as one within the sacred syllable Om, describing the three with their many faces, arms, mounts, garlands and garments. Later stanzas describe Shiva on Kailash with Parvati, the Ganga in his matted hair, and his presence as Vishwanath in Kashi.

Two forms circulate: a shorter one and the fuller one given here, which adds three stanzas. The refrain "Om jai Shiv Omkara" is sung after each stanza.
