Navagraha · नवग्रह

The Navagraha are the nine celestial bodies of Hindu astrology, worshipped together to calm their influence on one's life.

The Navagraha, the nine grahas, are Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Mangala (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Brihaspati (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn), Rahu and Ketu. Rahu and Ketu are shadow grahas (chhaya grahas), identified with the two nodes of the Moon's path. The seven days of the week correspond to the first seven.

In Hindu astrology the grahas are held to influence a person's life according to their position in the horoscope, and they are worshipped together to calm unfavourable influences, a rite called Navagraha shanti. Most Hindu temples have a place set apart for their worship. Practice varies by region and family.
