Sankashti Chaturthi · संकष्टी चतुर्थी
Sankashti Chaturthi is a monthly fast for Ganesh on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the waning fortnight. Its name means the Chaturthi that removes difficulties (sankat). When it falls on a Tuesday it is called Angarki (Angaraki) Chaturthi and is considered especially auspicious. The Sankashti of the month of Magha is widely kept in North India as Sakat Chauth.

How the date is determined
The fast is kept on the day when Krishna Chaturthi prevails at moonrise. Because moonrise differs from city to city, the day can differ between places, and panchangs occasionally disagree when Chaturthi begins close to moonrise.
Devotees fast through the day and worship Ganesh in the evening, often reciting his stotras and aarti. The fast is traditionally broken after sighting the Moon and offering it water (arghya).
