Sankatnashan Ganesh Stotra ·

A short Sanskrit hymn giving the twelve names of Ganesh, said to remove troubles and obstacles.

    praṇamya śirasā devaṃ gaurīputraṃ vināyakam । bhaktāvāsaṃ smarennityamāyuḥkāmārthasiddhaye ॥

    Bowing my head to the god Vinayaka, son of Gauri, one should always remember him, the abode of his devotees, for long life, desires, wealth and success.

    prathamaṃ vakratuṇḍaṃ ca ekadantaṃ dvitīyakam । tṛtīyaṃ kṛṣṇapiṅgākṣaṃ gajavaktraṃ caturthakam ॥

    पहला वक्रतुण्ड, दूसरा एकदन्त, तीसरा कृष्णपिङ्गाक्ष, चौथा गजवक्त्र;

    First, Vakratunda (of the curved trunk); second, Ekadanta (single-tusked); third, Krishnapingaksha (of dark and tawny eyes); fourth, Gajavaktra (elephant-faced);

    lambodaraṃ pañcamaṃ ca ṣaṣṭhaṃ vikaṭameva ca । saptamaṃ vighnarājendraṃ dhūmravarṇaṃ tathāṣṭamam ॥

    पाँचवाँ लम्बोदर, छठा विकट, सातवाँ विघ्नराजेन्द्र, आठवाँ धूम्रवर्ण;

    Fifth, Lambodara (of the large belly); sixth, Vikata (of formidable form); seventh, Vighnarajendra (king of obstacles); eighth, Dhumravarna (smoke-coloured);

    navamaṃ bhālacandraṃ ca daśamaṃ tu vināyakam । ekādaśaṃ gaṇapatiṃ dvādaśaṃ tu gajānanam ॥

    Ninth, Bhalachandra (with the moon on his forehead); tenth, Vinayaka; eleventh, Ganapati; twelfth, Gajanana (elephant-faced).

    dvādaśaitāni nāmāni trisandhyaṃ yaḥ paṭhennaraḥ । na ca vighnabhayaṃ tasya sarvasiddhikaraṃ prabho ॥

    Whoever recites these twelve names at the three junctions of the day has no fear of obstacles; O Lord, this grants every accomplishment.

    vidyārthī labhate vidyāṃ dhanārthī labhate dhanam । putrārthī labhate putrān mokṣārthī labhate gatim ॥

    The student gains learning, the seeker of wealth gains wealth, the one who longs for sons gains sons, and the seeker of liberation gains the goal.

    japedgaṇapatistotraṃ ṣaḍbhirmāsaiḥ phalaṃ labhet । saṃvatsareṇa siddhiṃ ca labhate nātra saṃśayaḥ ॥

    One who chants this hymn to Ganapati gains its fruit in six months, and within a year attains accomplishment: there is no doubt.

    aṣṭabhyo brāhmaṇebhyaśca likhitvā yaḥ samarpayet । tasya vidyā bhavetsarvā gaṇeśasya prasādataḥ ॥

    Whoever writes it out and offers it to eight brahmins gains all learning by the grace of Ganesh.
