About this text

The Achyutashtakam is a Sanskrit hymn of eight verses, traditionally attributed to Adi Shankaracharya, strung with names of Vishnu in his forms as Krishna and Ram: Achyuta, Keshava, Narayana, Damodara, Vasudeva, Madhava, beloved of the gopis and of Radha, lord of Janaki. Later verses describe Ram in the Dandaka forest with Lakshman and the vanaras, and Krishna as the cowherd boy who killed Putana and other demons. Its opening line, "Achyutam Keshavam Rama Narayanam", is widely sung on its own as a bhajan.
