To the Goddess who dwells in all beings in the form of power: salutation to her, salutation to her, salutation to her, salutation again and again.

About this text

This page gathers three Sanskrit verses to the Goddess that are recited on their own as mantras. Sarva-mangala-mangalye comes from the Narayani Stuti (chapter 11 of the Devi Mahatmya) and salutes her as Gauri and Narayani, the auspiciousness of all that is auspicious. Ya devi sarva-bhuteshu is the best-known verse of the hymn in chapter 5, in which the gods bow to the Goddess who dwells in all beings as power; the same pattern is repeated for many other forms (as consciousness, intelligence, mother and so on). Jayanti mangala kali opens the Argala Stotram recited before the Saptashati, and is also the first verse of the Durga Puja pushpanjali (flower offering). Each verse has been compared separately against independent editions.

How it is recited

These verses are recited in daily Devi worship, throughout Navratri and at the Durga Puja flower offering, and are often chanted 108 times. Customs vary.
