About this text
Narasimha, the man-lion form of Vishnu, appeared from a pillar to protect the boy Prahlad and tore open the demon king Hiranyakashipu with his nails. This aarti counts its rounds of the lamp as five aartis, each recalling a deed of Vishnu: saving Prahlad, coming as Vamana to King Bali's door, cutting off the arms of Sahasrabahu as the Brahmin Parashurama, slaying the demons and going to Lanka for his devotee Vibhishana as Rama, and throwing down Kamsa and caring for the gopis and cowherds as Krishna. The last line names Kabir as the singer. Only one independent edition of this aarti was found online, so its lines could not be compared; the text is taken from that edition, as the source box says.
How it is recited
It is sung in the worship of Narasimha, especially on Narasimha Jayanti (Vaishakh Shukla Chaturdashi). Customs vary.
