Brahma Aarti (Pitu Matu Sahayak) ·

"Pitu Matu Sahayak Swami Sakha", a prayer to the one Lord as father, mother, helper, master and friend, printed and sung as the aarti of Brahma.

jinke kuchh aur adhar nahin tinke tum hi rakhavare ho ||

    pitu mātu sahāyaka svāmī sakhā tuma hī eka nātha hamāre ho । jinake kucha aura ādhāra nahīṃ tinake tuma hī rakhavāre ho ॥

    Father, mother, helper, master, friend: you alone are our one Lord. For those who have no other support, you alone are the protector.

pratipal karo sigre jag ko atishay karuna ur dhare ho ||

    saba bhām̐ti sadā sukhadāyaka ho duḥkha nirguṇa nāśana hāre ho । pratipāla karo sigare jaga ko atiśaya karuṇā ura dhāre ho ॥

    In every way you always give joy; beyond all qualities, you destroy sorrow. You care for the whole world, holding boundless compassion in your heart.

bhuli hain ham to tumko tum to hamri sudhi nahin bisare ho |उपकारन को कछु अन्त नहीं छिन ही छिन जो विस्तारे हो ॥upakaran ko kachhu ant nahin chhin hi chhin jo vistare ho ||

    bhuli haiṃ hama to tumako tuma to hamarī sudhi nāhiṃ bisāre ho । upakārana ko kachu anta nahīṃ china hī china jo vistāre ho ॥

    We may forget you, but you never forget to care for us; there is no end to your kindnesses, which you spread moment by moment.

shubh shanti niketan premanidhi man mandir ke ujiyare ho ||

    mahārāja mahā mahimā tumharī mujhase birale budhavāre ho । śubha śānti niketana premanidhi mana mandira ke ujiyāre ho ॥

    O great King, great is your glory, and rare are the wise who know it; you are the auspicious home of peace, the treasure of love, the light of the temple of the mind.

tum son prabhu pay pratap hari kehi ke ab aur sahare ho ||

    isa jīvana ke tuma jīvana ho ina prāṇana ke tuma pyāre ho । tuma soṃ prabhu pāya pratāpa hari kehi ke aba aura sahāre ho ॥

    You are the life of this life, the beloved of these breaths. Having found a Lord like you, O Hari, says Pratap, whose support would we seek now?

About this text

This prayer does not describe Brahma's form; it speaks to the one Lord who is father, mother, helper, master and friend, the protector of those with no other support. It says the Lord always gives joy and removes sorrow, looks after the whole world with compassion, never forgets the devotee even when the devotee forgets him, and spreads his kindness moment by moment. It calls him the abode of peace, the treasure of love and the light of the temple of the mind, the life of life and the beloved of the breath, and the last line, which names the poet Pratap, asks whose support anyone could need after finding such a Lord. Only one independent edition of this aarti was found online, so its lines could not be compared; the text is taken from that edition.

How it is recited

It is sung in the worship of Brahma and as a general prayer at the end of puja. Customs vary.
