Ambe Tu Hai Jagdambe Kali ·
"Ambe tu hai Jagdambe Kali", one of the most widely sung Devi aartis, addressed to Durga and Kali together.
o maiya ham sab utare teri arti ||
ambe tū hai jagadambe kālī jaya durge khappara vālī tere hī guṇa gāveṃ bhāratī o maiyā hama saba utāre terī āratī । o maiyā hama saba utāre terī āratī ॥
Amba, you are Jagadamba and Kali; victory to Durga who bears the skull-bowl; Bharat (India) sings your praises alone. O Mother, we all wave your aarti.

Mother, great trouble has fallen on your devotees; fall upon the demon hordes, Mother, riding your lion. Stronger than hundreds of lions, eight-armed, you alone challenge the wicked.

In this world the bond of mother and son is most pure; we have heard of unworthy sons, but never of an unkind mother. You show compassion to all, rain nectar, and take away the sorrows of the suffering.

We do not ask for money or wealth, neither silver nor gold; we ask only a small corner at your feet. You set right what has gone wrong for all, protect their honour, and uphold the virtue of the faithful.

We stand at the refuge of your feet with the plate of worship; place your boon-giving hand on our heads, Mother, remover of troubles. Fill our cup with the nectar of devotion, eight-armed one; you alone accomplish your devotees' tasks.

About this text
This aarti, sung at Navratri pujas and jagrans across north India, calls on the Goddess as Amba, Jagadamba, Kali and Durga with her skull-bowl, and asks her to ride her lion against the demons who trouble her devotees. Its best-known lines speak of the pure bond of mother and child, saying that a son may be unworthy but no mother is ever unkind, and that the devotee asks not for wealth, silver or gold but only a small corner at her feet. Each stanza returns to the chorus "O maiya, hum sab utaare teri aarti". The online editions of this aarti differ in many of its lines; the reading of the most-visited site is shown and every edition's reading is listed under each line where they differ.
