Shani · शनि
Shani is the deity of the planet Saturn, one of the nine grahas, worshipped as the giver of the fruits of one's deeds.
Shani, also called Shanishchara, is the personification of the planet Saturn and one of the nine heavenly bodies (Navagraha) of Hindu astrology. In the Puranas he is a god of karma, time and retribution, who gives results according to one's thoughts, words and deeds. He is shown with a dark complexion, and is described as the son of Surya, the Sun, and Chhaya.
Shani is worshipped especially on Saturdays, and during the periods of his influence in a horoscope; many devotees offer water and lamps at a pipal tree on Saturdays. Practice varies by region and family.
