Hanuman Jayanti · हनुमान जयंती
Hanuman Jayanti celebrates the birth of Hanuman. In North India it is observed on Chaitra Purnima, the full moon of Chaitra.
Dates
Dates and times are for New Delhi (Asia/Kolkata). They can differ in other places, especially outside India, and between traditions.
How the date is determined
Chaitra Purnima prevailing at sunrise (North-Indian observance).
Devotees visit Hanuman temples, recite the Hanuman Chalisa and Sunderkand, offer sindoor and jasmine oil, and distribute prasad. Many begin before sunrise, the traditional hour of his birth.
Regional and tradition differences
Dates differ by region: some traditions observe it on Kartika Krishna Chaturdashi (the day before Diwali), and parts of South India in Margashirsha or Vaishakha. This page shows the North-Indian Chaitra Purnima date.
