About this text
Jai Ganesh Deva is a short Hindi aarti to Ganesh, sung in homes and temples across North India and at the start of almost every puja. It describes his single tusk, four arms, vermilion-marked forehead and mouse mount, the offerings of betel, flowers, dry fruit and laddoos, and his gifts to the blind, the sick, the childless and the poor. One stanza names "Sur Shyam" taking refuge. The refrain "Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganesh Deva, Mata jaki Parvati, Pita Mahadeva" is sung after each stanza; this page prints it as the edition followed does.
How it is recited
It is sung while waving a lamp before Ganesh at the start or close of worship, every day during Ganesh Chaturthi, and before other aartis. Customs vary.
