Indira Ekadashi · इंदिरा एकादशी
Indira Ekadashi is the Ekadashi of the waning fortnight of Ashwin in the purnimanta calendar (Bhadrapada in the amanta calendar). Because it falls in Pitru Paksha, the fortnight of the ancestors, it is traditionally kept for the peace of departed ancestors.
Dates
Dates and times are for New Delhi (Asia/Kolkata). They can differ in other places, especially outside India, and between traditions.
How the date is determined
Ashwin (purnimanta) / Bhadrapada (amanta) Krishna Ekadashi, by the Smarta and Vaishnava Ekadashi rules.
Devotees fast (from grains, or fully), worship Vishnu and recite his names, and break the fast the next morning within the parana time.
Regional and tradition differences
As with every Ekadashi, Smarta and Vaishnava calendars sometimes keep it on consecutive days; both dates are shown where they differ.
