विष्णु सुनिए विनय सेवक की चितलाय । कीरत कुछ वर्णन करूं दीजै ज्ञान बताय ॥

vishnu sunie vinay sevak ki chitalay | kirat kuchhh varnan karun dijai gyan batay ||

हे विष्णु, अपने सेवक की विनती ध्यान से सुनिए; मैं आपकी कीर्ति का कुछ वर्णन करना चाहता हूँ, मुझे उसका ज्ञान दीजिए।

Vishnu, listen attentively to your servant's prayer; I wish to tell something of your glory, so grant me the knowledge to do it.

नमो विष्णु भगवान खरारी । कष्ट नशावन अखिल बिहारी ॥

namo vishnu bhagavan kharari | kasht nashavan akhil bihari ||

खर राक्षस का वध करने वाले विष्णु भगवान को नमस्कार, जो कष्टों का नाश करते हैं और सर्वत्र विहार करते हैं।

Salutations to Lord Vishnu, slayer of the demon Khara, who destroys suffering and dwells everywhere.

प्रबल जगत में शक्ति तुम्हारी । त्रिभुवन फैल रही उजियारी ॥

prabal jagat men shakti tumhari | tribhuvan phail rahi ujiyari ||

संसार में आपकी शक्ति प्रबल है, और आपका प्रकाश तीनों लोकों में फैला है।

Your power is mighty in the world, and your light spreads through the three worlds.

सुन्दर रूप मनोहर सूरत । सरल स्वभाव मोहनी मूरत ॥

sundar rup manohar surat | saral svabhav mohani murat ||

आपका रूप सुंदर और मुख मनोहर है; स्वभाव सरल है और मूर्ति मोहिनी है।

Your form is beautiful and your face lovely; gentle by nature, your image enchants.

तन पर पीतांबर अति सोहत । बैजन्ती माला मन मोहत ॥

tan par pitanbar ati sohat | baijanti mala man mohat ||

आपके शरीर पर पीतांबर अत्यंत शोभित है, और वैजयंती माला मन मोह लेती है।

The yellow garment looks splendid on your body, and the Vaijayanti garland charms the heart.

शंख चक्र कर गदा बिराजे । देखत दैत्य असुर दल भाजे ॥

shankh chakr kar gada biraje | dekhat daity asur dal bhaje ||

आपके हाथों में शंख, चक्र और गदा विराजते हैं; उन्हें देखते ही दैत्यों और असुरों के दल भाग जाते हैं।

The conch, discus and mace shine in your hands; at the sight of them the hosts of demons flee.

सत्य धर्म मद लोभ न गाजे । काम क्रोध मद लोभ न छाजे ॥

saty dharm mad lobh n gaje | kam krodh mad lobh n chhhaje ||

आपमें सत्य और धर्म का वास है; मद, लोभ, काम और क्रोध आपको छू नहीं पाते।

Truth and dharma prevail in you; pride, greed, lust and anger have no place in you.

संतभक्त सज्जन मनरंजन । दनुज असुर दुष्टन दल गंजन ॥

santabhakt sajjan manaranjan | danuj asur dushtan dal ganjan ||

आप संतों, भक्तों और सज्जनों के मन को आनंदित करते हैं, और दानवों, असुरों और दुष्टों के दल का नाश करते हैं।

You delight the hearts of saints, devotees and good people, and crush the hosts of demons and the wicked.

सुख उपजाय कष्ट सब भंजन । दोष मिटाय करत जन सज्जन ॥

sukh upajay kasht sab bhanjan | dosh mitay karat jan sajjan ||

आप सुख उपजाते हैं और सब कष्ट तोड़ते हैं; दोष मिटाकर लोगों को सज्जन बनाते हैं।

You bring happiness and break all suffering; you remove faults and make people good.

पाप काट भव सिंधु उतारण । कष्ट नाशकर भक्त उबारण ॥

pap kat bhav sindhu utaran | kasht nashakar bhakt ubaran ||

आप पाप काटकर भवसागर से पार उतारते हैं; कष्ट नष्ट करके भक्तों का उद्धार करते हैं।

You cut away sin and carry people across the ocean of existence; you destroy suffering and save your devotees.

करत अनेक रूप प्रभु धारण । केवल आप भक्ति के कारण ॥

karat anek rup prabhu dharan | keval ap bhakti ke karan ||

हे प्रभु, आप केवल भक्ति के कारण अनेक रूप धारण करते हैं।

Lord, you take many forms, solely for the sake of devotion.

धरणि धेनु बन तुमहिं पुकारा । तब तुम रूप राम का धारा ॥

dharani dhenu ban tumahin pukara | tab tum rup ram ka dhara ||

जब धरती ने गाय बनकर आपको पुकारा, तब आपने राम का रूप धारण किया।

When the Earth, in the form of a cow, called to you, you took the form of Rama.

भार उतार असुर दल मारा । रावण आदिक को संहारा ॥

bhar utar asur dal mara | ravan adik ko sanhara ||

आपने उसका भार उतारा और असुरों के दल को मारा, रावण आदि का संहार किया।

You lifted her burden and slew the hosts of demons, destroying Ravana and the others.

आप वाराह रूप बनाया । हिरण्याक्ष को मार गिराया ॥

ap varah rup banaya | hiranyaksh ko mar giraya ||

आपने वराह रूप धारण किया और हिरण्याक्ष को मार गिराया।

You took the form of Varaha, the boar, and struck down Hiranyaksha.

धर मत्स्य तन सिंधु बनाया । चौदह रतनन को निकलाया ॥

dhar matsy tan sindhu banaya | chaudah ratanan ko nikalaya ||

मत्स्य का शरीर धारण करके आप समुद्र में गए; और आपने चौदह रत्न निकलवाए।

Taking the form of a fish you moved through the ocean; and you brought forth the fourteen jewels from it.

अमिलख असुरन द्वंद मचाया । रूप मोहनी आप दिखाया ॥

amilakh asuran dvand machaya | rup mohani ap dikhaya ||

अमृत देखकर असुरों ने झगड़ा मचाया, तब आपने मोहिनी रूप दिखाया।

Seeing the nectar, the demons stirred up strife, and you showed yourself in the form of Mohini.

देवन को अमृत पान कराया । असुरन को छबि से बहलाया ॥

devan ko amrit pan karaya | asuran ko chhhabi se bahalaya ||

आपने देवताओं को अमृत पिलाया, और असुरों को अपनी छवि से बहला दिया।

You gave the gods the nectar to drink, and beguiled the demons with your beauty.

कूर्म रूप धर सिंधु मझाया । मंद्राचल गिरि तुरत उठाया ॥

kurm rup dhar sindhu majhaya | mandrachal giri turat uthaya ||

कूर्म रूप धारण करके समुद्र के बीच आपने तुरंत मंदराचल पर्वत उठा लिया।

Taking the form of the tortoise (Kurma) in the middle of the ocean, you at once lifted Mount Mandarachala.

शंकर का तुम फन्द छुड़ाया । भस्मासुर को रूप दिखाया ॥

shankar ka tum phand chhhuraya | bhasmasur ko rup dikhaya ||

आपने शंकर जी को फंदे से छुड़ाया, और भस्मासुर को अपना (मोहिनी) रूप दिखाया।

You freed Shankar from his trap, appearing in your enchanting form before Bhasmasura.

वेदन को जब असुर डुबाया । कर प्रबन्ध उन्हें ढुँढवाया ॥

vedan ko jab asur dubaya | kar prabandh unhen dhundhavaya ||

जब असुर ने वेदों को डुबो दिया, तो आपने प्रबंध करके उन्हें ढुँढवाया।

When a demon sank the Vedas, you arranged for them to be found.

मोहित बनकर खलहि नचाया । उसही कर से भस्म कराया ॥

mohit banakar khalahi nachaya | usahi kar se bhasm karaya ||

मोहिनी बनकर आपने दुष्ट को नचाया, और उसी के हाथ से उसे भस्म करा दिया।

Becoming enchanting, you made the wicked one dance, and had him burned to ash by his own hand.

असुर जलंधर अति बलदाई । शंकर से उन कीन्ह लडाई ॥

asur jalandhar ati baladai | shankar se un kinh ladai ||

अत्यंत बलवान असुर जलंधर ने शंकर जी से युद्ध किया।

The demon Jalandhar, exceedingly mighty, waged war against Shankar.

हार पार शिव सकल बनाई । कीन सती से छल खल जाई ॥

har par shiv sakal banai | kin sati se chhhal khal jai ||

शिव जी सब उपाय करके हार गए; तब वह दुष्ट जाकर सती (पार्वती) से छल करने लगा।

Shiva tried every means and was wearied; then the wicked one went and tried to deceive Sati (Parvati).

सुमिरन कीन तुम्हें शिवरानी । बतलाई सब विपत कहानी ॥

sumiran kin tumhen shivarani | batalai sab vipat kahani ||

शिवरानी ने आपका स्मरण किया, और सारी विपत्ति की कहानी बताई।

Shiva's queen remembered you, and told you the whole tale of trouble.

तब तुम बने मुनीश्वर ज्ञानी । वृन्दा की सब सुरति भुलानी ॥

tab tum bane munishvar gyani | vrinda ki sab surati bhulani ||

तब आप ज्ञानी मुनीश्वर बने, और वृंदा की सारी सुध भुला दी।

Then you became a wise sage, and made Vrinda forget all her awareness.

देखत तीन दनुज शैतानी । वृन्दा आय तुम्हें लपटानी ॥

dekhat tin danuj shaitani | vrinda ay tumhen lapatani ||

दानवों की दुष्टता देखकर वृंदा आकर आपसे लिपट गई।

Seeing the demons' wickedness, Vrinda came and clung to you.

हो स्पर्श धर्म क्षति मानी । हना असुर उर शिव शैतानी ॥

ho sparsh dharm kshati mani | hana asur ur shiv shaitani ||

उस स्पर्श से उसका धर्म भंग माना गया, और शिव जी ने उस दुष्ट असुर के हृदय पर प्रहार करके उसे मार डाला।

By that touch her virtue was held broken, and Shiva struck the wicked demon in the heart and slew him.

तुमने ध्रुव प्रहलाद उबारे । हिरणाकुश आदिक खल मारे ॥

tumane dhruv prahalad ubare | hiranakush adik khal mare ||

आपने ध्रुव और प्रह्लाद का उद्धार किया, और हिरण्यकशिपु आदि दुष्टों को मारा।

You saved Dhruva and Prahlada, and slew the wicked such as Hiranyakashipu.

गणिका और अजामिल तारे । बहुत भक्त भव सिन्धु उतारे ॥

ganika aur ajamil tare | bahut bhakt bhav sindhu utare ||

आपने गणिका और अजामिल को तारा, और बहुत-से भक्तों को भवसागर से पार उतारा।

You saved the courtesan and Ajamila, and carried many devotees across the ocean of existence.

हरहु सकल संताप हमारे । कृपा करहु हरि सिरजन हारे ॥

harahu sakal santap hamare | kripa karahu hari sirajan hare ||

हमारे सब संताप हर लीजिए; हे सृष्टिकर्ता हरि, कृपा कीजिए।

Remove all our sorrows; be gracious, Hari, creator of all.

देखहुं मैं निज दरश तुम्हारे । दीन बन्धु भक्तन हितकारे ॥

dekhahun main nij darash tumhare | din bandhu bhaktan hitakare ||

हे दीनबंधु, भक्तों का हित करने वाले, मुझे अपने निज रूप के दर्शन कराइए।

Let me see you in your own form, friend of the humble, who does good to devotees.

चहत आपका सेवक दर्शन । करहु दया अपनी मधुसूदन ॥

chahat apaka sevak darshan | karahu daya apani madhusudan ||

आपका सेवक आपके दर्शन चाहता है; हे मधुसूदन, अपनी दया कीजिए।

Your servant longs for your sight; Madhusudana, show your mercy.

जानूं नहीं योग्य जप पूजन । होय यज्ञ स्तुति अनुमोदन ॥

janun nahin yogy jap pujan | hoy yagy stuti anumodan ||

मैं योग्य जप और पूजन नहीं जानता, न यज्ञ और स्तुति की विधि।

I know no proper chanting or worship, nor how sacrifice and praise are done.

शीलदया सन्तोष सुलक्षण । विदित नहीं व्रतबोध विलक्षण ॥

shiladaya santosh sulakshan | vidit nahin vratabodh vilakshan ||

शील, दया, संतोष जैसे सुलक्षण, और व्रत तथा ज्ञान की विलक्षण बातें मुझे विदित नहीं हैं।

Good conduct, compassion, contentment and good qualities, the marks of vows and wisdom, are not known to me.

करहुं आपका किस विधि पूजन । कुमति विलोक होत दुख भीषण ॥

karahun apaka kis vidhi pujan | kumati vilok hot dukh bhishan ||

मैं किस विधि से आपका पूजन करूँ? अपनी कुमति देखकर मुझे भीषण दुख होता है।

How should I worship you? Seeing my own poor understanding, I feel terrible sorrow.

करहुं प्रणाम कौन विधिसुमिरण । कौन भांति मैं करहु समर्पण ॥

karahun pranam kaun vidhisumiran | kaun bhanti main karahu samarpan ||

मैं किस विधि से प्रणाम करूँ, कैसे स्मरण करूँ, और किस भाँति समर्पण करूँ?

How should I bow to you, how remember you, and in what way should I surrender to you?

सुर मुनि करत सदा सिवकाई । हर्षित रहत परम गति पाई ॥

sur muni karat sada sivakai | harshit rahat param gati pai ||

देवता और मुनि सदा आपकी सेवा करते हैं, और परम गति पाकर प्रसन्न रहते हैं।

Gods and sages always serve you, and remain joyful, having reached the highest state.

दीन दुखिन पर सदा सहाई । निज जन जान लेव अपनाई ॥

din dukhin par sada sahai | nij jan jan lev apanai ||

आप दीन-दुखियों के सदा सहायक हैं; मुझे अपना जानकर अपना लीजिए।

You are always the helper of the humble and the suffering; know me as your own and accept me.

पाप दोष संताप नशाओ । भव-बंधन से मुक्त कराओ ॥

pap dosh santap nashao | bhava-bandhan se mukt karao ||

पाप, दोष और संताप नष्ट कीजिए, और भव-बंधन से मुक्त कीजिए।

Destroy sin, faults and sorrow, and free me from the bonds of worldly existence.

सुत सम्पति दे सुख उपजाओ । निज चरनन का दास बनाओ ॥

sut sampati de sukh upajao | nij charanan ka das banao ||

संतान और संपत्ति देकर सुख उपजाइए; मुझे अपने चरणों का दास बनाइए।

Grant children and wealth and bring happiness; make me a servant of your feet.
