स्वयंभू मूर्ति वाली शारदा मैहर में आकर विराजीं; वे माला और पुस्तक धारण करती हैं, और उनके हाथ में वीणा सजी है।

Sharda, whose image appeared of itself, came and took her seat at Maihar; she holds a rosary and a book, and the vina graces her hand.

जय जय जय शारदा महारानी । आदि शक्ति तुम जग कल्याणी ॥

jay jay jay sharada maharani | adi shakti tum jag kalyani ||

महारानी शारदा की जय, जय, जय; आप आदिशक्ति हैं, जगत का कल्याण करने वाली।

Glory, glory, glory to Sharda the great queen; you are the primal power, who bless the world.

रूप चतुर्भुज तुम्हरो माता । तीन लोक महं तुम विख्याता ॥

rup chaturbhuj tumharo mata | tin lok mahan tum vikhyata ||

हे माता, आपका रूप चतुर्भुज है; आप तीनों लोकों में विख्यात हैं।

Mother, your form is four-armed; you are renowned in the three worlds.

दो सहस्र बर्षहि अनुमाना । प्रगट भई शारद जग जाना ॥

do sahasr barshahi anumana | pragat bhi sharad jag jana ||

अनुमान है कि लगभग दो हजार वर्ष पहले शारदा प्रकट हुईं, और जगत ने उन्हें जाना।

About two thousand years ago, as it is reckoned, Sharda appeared, and the world came to know her.

मैहर नगर विश्व विख्याता । जहाँ बैठी शारद जग माता ॥

maihar nagar vishv vikhyata | jahan baithi sharad jag mata ||

मैहर नगर विश्व में विख्यात है, जहाँ जगमाता शारदा बैठी हैं।

The town of Maihar is famed throughout the world, where Sharda, mother of the world, is seated.

त्रिकूट पर्वत शारदा वासा । मैहर नगरी परम प्रकाशा ॥

trikut parvat sharada vasa | maihar nagari param prakasha ||

शारदा त्रिकूट पर्वत पर वास करती हैं; मैहर नगरी परम प्रकाश से भरी है।

Sharda dwells on the Trikuta hill; the town of Maihar shines with supreme light.

शरद इन्दु सम बदन तुम्हारो । रूप चतुर्भुज अतिशय प्यारो ॥

sharad indu sam badan tumharo | rup chaturbhuj atishay pyaro ||

आपका मुख शरद के चंद्रमा के समान है, और आपका चतुर्भुज रूप अत्यंत प्यारा है।

Your face is like the autumn moon, and your four-armed form is most lovely.

कोटि सूर्य सम तन द्युति पावन । राज हंस तुम्हारो शचि वाहन ॥

koti sury sam tan dyuti pavan | raj hans tumharo shachi vahan ||

आपके शरीर में करोड़ों सूर्यों जैसी पावन द्युति है; राजहंस आपका पवित्र वाहन है।

Your body has the pure radiance of millions of suns; the royal swan is your pure mount.

कानन कुण्डल लोल सुहावहि । उरमणि भाल अनूप दिखावहिं ॥

kanan kundal lol suhavahi | uramani bhal anup dikhavahin ||

कानों में डोलते कुंडल सुहाते हैं; हृदय और ललाट की मणि अनुपम दिखती है।

Swinging earrings look lovely in your ears; the jewel at your breast and on your brow are matchless.

वीणा पुस्तक अभय धारिणी । जगत्मातु तुम जग विहारिणी ॥

vina pustak abhay dharini | jagatmatu tum jag viharini ||

आप वीणा, पुस्तक और अभय मुद्रा धारण करती हैं; हे जगमाता, आप जगत में विचरती हैं।

You hold the vina, the book and the gesture of fearlessness; mother of the world, you move through the world.

ब्रह्म सुता अखंड अनूपा । शारद गुण गावत सुरभूपा ॥

brahm suta akhand anupa | sharad gun gavat surabhupa ||

ब्रह्मा की पुत्री, अखंड और अनुपम; देवराज शारदा के गुण गाते हैं।

Daughter of Brahma, whole and incomparable; the king of the gods sings Sharda's virtues.

हरिहर करहिं शारदा बन्दन । बरुण कुबेर करहिं अभिनन्दन ॥

harihar karahin sharada bandan | barun kuber karahin abhinandan ||

हरि और हर शारदा की वंदना करते हैं; वरुण और कुबेर उनका अभिनंदन करते हैं।

Hari and Hara bow to Sharda; Varuna and Kubera honour her.

शारद रूप चण्डी अवतारा । चण्ड-मुण्ड असुरन संहारा ॥

sharad rup chandi avatara | chanda-mund asuran sanhara ||

शारदा के रूप में चंडी अवतरित हुईं और चंड-मुंड असुरों का संहार किया।

In Sharda's form, Chandi came down and slew the demons Chanda and Munda.

महिषा सुर वध कीन्हि भवानी । दुर्गा बन शारद कल्याणी ॥

mahisha sur vadh kinhi bhavani | durga ban sharad kalyani ||

भवानी ने महिषासुर का वध किया; कल्याणी शारदा दुर्गा बनीं।

Bhavani slew Mahishasura; Sharda the gracious became Durga.

धरा रूप शारद भई चण्डी । रक्त बीज काटा रण मुण्डी ॥

dhara rup sharad bhi chandi | rakt bij kata ran mundi ||

रूप धरकर शारदा चंडी बनीं और रण में मुंडमाला धारण कर रक्तबीज को काटा।

Taking form, Sharda became Chandi and cut down Raktabija in battle, wearing a garland of heads.

तुलसी सूर्य आदि विद्वाना । शारद सुयश सदैव बखाना ॥

tulasi sury adi vidvana | sharad suyash sadaiv bakhana ||

तुलसी, सूर आदि विद्वानों ने सदा शारदा के सुयश का बखान किया है।

Tulsi, Sur and other learned poets have always told Sharda's fair fame.

कालिदास भए अति विख्याता । तुम्हारी दया शारदा माता ॥

kalidas bhae ati vikhyata | tumhari daya sharada mata ||

हे शारदा माता, आपकी दया से कालिदास अत्यंत विख्यात हुए।

Kalidasa became most renowned through your grace, Mother Sharda.

वाल्मीक नारद मुनि देवा । पुनि-पुनि करहिं शारदा सेवा ॥

valmik narad muni deva | puni-puni karahin sharada seva ||

वाल्मीकि, नारद मुनि और देवता बार-बार शारदा की सेवा करते हैं।

Valmiki, the sage Narada and the gods serve Sharda again and again.

चरण-शरण देवहु जग माया । सब जग व्यापहिं शारद माया ॥

charana-sharan devahu jag maya | sab jag vyapahin sharad maya ||

हे जगत की माया, अपने चरणों की शरण दीजिए; शारदा की माया सारे जगत में व्याप्त है।

Mother of the world's power, grant refuge at your feet; Sharda's power pervades the whole world.

अणु-परमाणु शारदा वासा । परम शक्तिमय परम प्रकाशा ॥

anu-paramanu sharada vasa | param shaktimay param prakasha ||

शारदा अणु और परमाणु में वास करती हैं, परम शक्ति और परम प्रकाश से भरी।

Sharda dwells in the atom and the particle, full of supreme power and supreme light.

हे शारद तुम ब्रह्म स्वरूपा । शिव विरंचि पूजहिं नर भूपा ॥

he sharad tum brahm svarupa | shiv viranchi pujahin nar bhupa ||

हे शारदा, आप ब्रह्म स्वरूप हैं; शिव, विरंचि, मनुष्य और राजा आपकी पूजा करते हैं।

O Sharda, you are the form of Brahman; Shiva, Brahma, men and kings worship you.

ब्रह्म शक्ति नहि एकउ भेदा । शारद के गुण गावहिं वेदा ॥

brahm shakti nahi eku bheda | sharad ke gun gavahin veda ||

ब्रह्म और शक्ति में एक भी भेद नहीं; वेद शारदा के गुण गाते हैं।

Between Brahman and its power there is no difference at all; the Vedas sing Sharda's virtues.

जय जग बन्दनि विश्व स्वरुपा । निर्गुण-सगुण शारदहिं रुपा ॥

jay jag bandani vishv svarupa | nirguna-sagun sharadahin rupa ||

जगत द्वारा वंदित, विश्व-स्वरूपा, आपकी जय; निर्गुण और सगुण दोनों शारदा के ही रूप हैं।

Glory to you whom the world worships, whose form is the universe; without qualities and with qualities, both are Sharda's forms.

सुमिरहु शारद नाम अखंडा । व्यापइ नहिं कलिकाल प्रचण्डा ॥

sumirahu sharad nam akhanda | vyapi nahin kalikal prachanda ||

शारदा का नाम अखंड रूप से स्मरण करो, तो प्रचंड कलियुग नहीं व्यापेगा।

Remember Sharda's name unbroken, and the fierce Kali age will not touch you.

सूर्य चन्द्र नभ मण्डल तारे । शारद कृपा चमकते सारे ॥

sury chandr nabh mandal tare | sharad kripa chamakate sare ||

सूर्य, चंद्रमा और आकाश-मंडल के तारे सब शारदा की कृपा से चमकते हैं।

The sun, the moon and the stars in the sky all shine by Sharda's grace.

उद्भव स्थिति प्रलय कारिणी । बन्दउ शारद जगत तारिणी ॥

udbhav sthiti pralay karini | bandu sharad jagat tarini ||

मैं उत्पत्ति, स्थिति और प्रलय करने वाली, जगत को तारने वाली शारदा की वंदना करता हूँ।

I bow to Sharda, who causes creation, preservation and dissolution, and carries the world across.

दुःख दरिद्र सब जाहिं नसाई । तुम्हारी कृपा शारदा माई ॥

duhkh daridr sab jahin nasai | tumhari kripa sharada mai ||

हे शारदा माई, आपकी कृपा से सब दुख और दरिद्रता नष्ट हो जाते हैं।

All sorrow and poverty are destroyed by your grace, Mother Sharda.

परम पुनीति जगत अधारा । मातु शारदा ज्ञान तुम्हारा ॥

param puniti jagat adhara | matu sharada gyan tumhara ||

हे माता शारदा, आपका ज्ञान परम पवित्र और जगत का आधार है।

Supremely pure, the support of the world, is your knowledge, Mother Sharda.

विद्या बुद्धि मिलहिं सुखदानी । जय जय जय शारदा भवानी ॥

vidya buddhi milahin sukhadani | jay jay jay sharada bhavani ||

सुख देने वाली विद्या और बुद्धि मिलती है; शारदा भवानी की जय, जय, जय।

Learning and wisdom that give joy are gained; glory, glory, glory to Sharda Bhavani.

शारदे पूजन जो जन करहीं । निश्चय ते भव सागर तरहीं ॥

sharade pujan jo jan karahin | nishchay te bhav sagar tarahin ||

जो जन शारदा की पूजा करते हैं, वे निश्चय ही भवसागर तर जाते हैं।

Those who worship Sharda surely cross the ocean of the world.

शारद कृपा मिलहिं शुचि ज्ञाना । होई सकल विधि अति कल्याणा ॥

sharad kripa milahin shuchi gyana | hoi sakal vidhi ati kalyana ||

शारदा की कृपा से पवित्र ज्ञान मिलता है, और हर प्रकार से अत्यंत कल्याण होता है।

By Sharda's grace pure knowledge is gained, and every kind of good follows.

जग के विषय महा दुःख दाई । भजहुँ शारदा अति सुख पाई ॥

jag ke vishay maha duhkh dai | bhajahun sharada ati sukh pai ||

जगत के विषय महा दुख देने वाले हैं; शारदा को भजो और अत्यंत सुख पाओ।

The objects of the world bring great sorrow; worship Sharda and gain great joy.

परम प्रकाश शारदा तोरा । दिव्य किरण देवहुँ मम ओरा ॥

param prakash sharada tora | divy kiran devahun mam ora ||

हे शारदा, आपका प्रकाश परम है; अपनी दिव्य किरणें मेरी ओर भेजिए।

Sharda, your light is supreme; send your divine rays towards me.

परमानन्द मगन मन होई । मातु शारदा सुमिरई जोई ॥

paramanand magan man hoi | matu sharada sumiri joi ||

जो माता शारदा का स्मरण करता है, उसका मन परमानंद में मग्न हो जाता है।

Whoever remembers Mother Sharda, their mind is immersed in supreme bliss.

चित्त शान्त होवहिं जप ध्याना । भजहुँ शारदा होवहिं ज्ञाना ॥

chitt shant hovahin jap dhyana | bhajahun sharada hovahin gyana ||

जप और ध्यान से चित्त शांत होता है; शारदा को भजो, ज्ञान होगा।

The mind grows calm through chanting and meditation; worship Sharda and knowledge comes.

रचना रचित शारदा केरी । पाठ करहिं भव छटई फेरी ॥

rachana rachit sharada keri | path karahin bhav chhhati pheri ||

जो शारदा की इस रचना का पाठ करते हैं, उनका जन्म-मरण का फेरा छूट जाता है।

Those who read this composition about Sharda are freed from the round of rebirth.

सत्–सत् नमन पढ़ीहे धरिध्याना । शारद मातु करहिं कल्याणा ॥

sat–sat naman parhihe dharidhyana | sharad matu karahin kalyana ||

सौ-सौ बार नमन कर ध्यान लगाकर पढ़ो, माता शारदा कल्याण करेंगी।

Bowing a hundred times, read it with attention, and Mother Sharda will bless you.

शारद महिमा को जग जाना । नेति-नेति कह वेद बखाना ॥

sharad mahima ko jag jana | neti-neti kah ved bakhana ||

शारदा की महिमा जगत में कौन जानता है? वेद "नेति-नेति" कहकर उसका बखान करते हैं।

Who in the world knows Sharda's glory? The Vedas describe it as "not this, not this".

सत्-सत् नमन शारदा तोरा । कृपा दृष्टि कीजै मम ओरा ॥

sat-sat naman sharada tora | kripa drishti kijai mam ora ||

हे शारदा, आपको सौ-सौ नमन; मेरी ओर कृपा-दृष्टि कीजिए।

A hundred salutations to you, Sharda; cast your merciful glance towards me.

जो जन सेवा करहिं तुम्हारी । तिन कहँ कतहुँ नाहि दुःखभारी ॥

jo jan seva karahin tumhari | tin kahan katahun nahi duhkhabhari ||

जो जन आपकी सेवा करते हैं, उन्हें कहीं भी भारी दुख नहीं होता।

Those who serve you never suffer any heavy sorrow anywhere.

बन्दउँ शारद चरण रज भक्ति ज्ञान मोहि देहुँ । सकल अविद्या दूर कर सदा बसहु उरगेहुँ ॥

bandun sharad charan raj bhakti gyan mohi dehun | sakal avidya dur kar sada basahu uragehun ||

मैं शारदा के चरणों की रज की वंदना करता हूँ; मुझे भक्ति और ज्ञान दीजिए। सारी अविद्या दूर कर सदा मेरे हृदय-घर में बसिए।

I bow to the dust of Sharda's feet; give me devotion and knowledge. Remove all ignorance and dwell always in the home of my heart.

जय-जय माई शारदा मैहर तेरौ धाम । शरण मातु मोहिं लीजिए तोहि भजहुँ निष्काम ॥

jaya-jay mai sharada maihar terau dham | sharan matu mohin lijie tohi bhajahun nishkam ||

जय-जय माई शारदा, मैहर आपका धाम है; हे माता, मुझे अपनी शरण में लीजिए, मैं निष्काम भाव से आपको भजूँ।

Glory, glory, Mother Sharda, Maihar is your abode; take me into your refuge, Mother, and I will worship you without desire.
